Summer on Sapelo 2026, by the numbers

Three people in outdoor clothing jump and pose in a grassy field next to a white research structure, with trees in the background. Text reads: Summer 2026 on Sapelo by the numbers.

This summer at UGAMI, we…

🏛️ Hosted 11 collegiate educational groups representing 6 different institutions

👨‍🎓 Welcomed 142 visiting students

🛥️ Offered 2 residential undergraduate field programs for 18 students

🥼 Supported 24 on-site principal investigators and 28 graduate students representing 14 institutions

👩‍🏫 Hosted five teacher workshops attended by 60 educators and representing 25 Georgia counties

Behind every number are students learning in Georgia’s salt marshes, scientists conducting coastal research, educators bringing marine science into their classrooms, and early career professionals gaining invaluable experience in the field.

Thank you to everyone who brought their knowledge, curiosity, and energy to Sapelo Island this summer!
