UGA hosted a retreat for Georgia’s federal legislative staffers on the university’s main campus in Athens in August. Forty legislative staff members, representing Georgia’s entire federal delegation, took part. The event featured an information session on UGA’s marine programs, including UGAMI, the Department of Marine Sciences, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant.

UGAMI Director Merryl Alber provided an overview of the Institute and Assistant Director Damon Gannon described the Institute’s education programs. Daniela Di Iorio, Renato Castelao, and Dontrece Smith provided overviews of research being conducted as part of the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Long Term Ecological Research Project.
